Description
A MOSFET switches heavy DC loads with almost no loss. The IRFZ44N is a favourite for motor controllers, 12 V LED-strip dimmers, e-bike and battery projects.
Features
- N-channel, 55 V drain-source
- 49 A continuous drain current (at 25 °C case, with heatsink)
- RDS(on) 17.5 mΩ maximum at 10 V gate drive
- TO-220 package, tab connected to the drain
Pinout
Front (printed side) towards you, legs down: Gate – Drain – Source.
Important – gate voltage
The IRFZ44N needs about 10 V on the gate to switch fully on. A 5 V or 3.3 V microcontroller pin only turns it partly on, so it heats up. Drive the gate through a transistor or gate driver from 10–12 V, or choose a logic-level MOSFET such as the IRLZ44N. Add a 10 kΩ gate-to-source pull-down and a flyback diode across inductive loads.
Package includes
2 × IRFZ44N MOSFETs
